When I first started teaching Japanese, I did not understand why Australian students had so much trouble distinguishing among きて, きって and きいて.

The way I felt is probably the same as what you feel when you see me struggle with “right” and “light”. It doesn’t come natural to me!


If you could read them all, you won’t need any explanation, but I will give it anyway.

きて is the て form of きます (come or wear)

きって is the てform of きります (cut)

きいて is the  てform of ききます (listen to)
