パンク

My non-Japanese speaking husband was almost ecstatic when he took this photo. “Punk” in a bicycle shop??

パンク in Japanese is not for “punk” but it is from “puncture.” So パンクする usually means “to have a flat tyre.”

パンクする can also mean “to blow out” or “to be jammed.” 電話回線がパンクした means that telephone lines were swamped by a deluge of calls.

Japanese do like to shorten katakana words, so it is sometimes very hard to guess what the original word is!
