[てform]は + だめ だ/です

日本（にほん）では電車（でんしゃ）の中（なか）で電話（でんわ）で話（はな）しては（ ）です。
a. いい b. オーケー c. だめ d. なれ

The intended meaning is: “You must NOT talk on the phone on a train” and the correct answer is c. だめ

[てform]は + だめ だ/です means “… not allowed to …”

If you thought it is OK to talk on the phone, you might have picked a. いい or b. オーケー but then you need to change the particle は after [てform] into も.

Examples of [てform]は + だめ だ/です

じゅぎょうちゅう ねては だめです。
= You must not sleep in class.

しゅくだいを するまえに テレビを みては だめだ。
= You must not watch TV before you finish your homework.

たべながら はなしては だめです。
= You must not talk while eating.

よる おそく トランペットを ふいては だめです。
= You must not play the trumpet late at night.

こどもが おさけを のんでは だめです。
= Children must not drink any alcohol

いたずらを しては だめだ。
= You must not pull a prank.

パジャマで がっこうに きては だめです。
= You must not come to school in pyjamas.
