If you had a chance to dine in a Japanese restaurant, you may have come across えだまめ beans. Many Japanese restaurants in Australia serve them as an entrée.

Japanese people love eating えだまめ as a side dish with beer in summer and you can buy fresh えだまめ in green grocers in summer, too.
A funny thing about えだまめ is, however, there are many Japanese people who do not know what えだまめ actually is!
えだまめ is “green soybeans in the pods,” so if you sow dried soybeans in early summer, you will be able to grow えだまめ beans yourself! When pods are big enough, you pick them and simply boil them in salty water! If you like えだまめ, try growing them next summer!
