Many people know “water” is called 水(みず) in Japanese but the word 水(みず) indicates that it is not heated. Once it is heated, it is called お湯(おゆ), but the temperature of お湯(おゆ)can vary from lukewarm to boiling hot. If you want to specify “piping hot water”, you need to call it 熱湯(ねっとう).
