かわい、かわいい、こわい

かわい、かわいい、こわい

Today’s set of similar sounding words are: かわい、かわいい and こわい

I have heard many people mixing up かわいい (cute) and こわい (scary) which are almost opposite in meanings. If you practise saying these words paying attention to the intonation, you will find it less confusing. The whole sentence in the caption means “Mr Kawai is scary when angry but his smile is cute.”

河合(わい可愛い(わい恐い(
Kawai – a common surnamecutescary

The intonation of the whole sentence is like:

わいせんせいはおるとこいが、がおはかわいい。
