Today’s #kanji is 当, which is listed under the radical of #けいがしら(彐) in my dictionary, but some dictionaries list it under #しょうがしら(小). 当 is a simplified form of 當 which is made of its semantic element of 田 and phonetic element of 尚.
Meaning: to apply, to take charge, etc.
Reading: トウ、あ
当時(トウジ): at that time, in those days, then
当日(トウジツ): the day, the day in question, the appointed day
当番(トウバン): being on duty, a person on duty
相当(ソウトウ)な/の: considerable, sizable, pretty good
適当(テキトウ)な: suitable, proper, appropriate
弁当(ベントウ): (a) lunch, a picnic lunch, a box meal, a meal in a box
本当(ホントウ)の: true, real, actual, really existing; proper, right; genuine
当(あ)たる: to hit, to strike; to touch, to come in contact with…; (for the sun) to shine on, to strike; to hit the target, to come true, etc.
当(あ)てる: to put, to place, to apply; to hit, to strike; to point, to direct, etc.
