Today’s second #kanji is #短, which is made of 矢 (an arrow) and 豆 (a bean). 豆 also has the meaning of “small”, so 短’s original meaning was “a short arrow.”
Meaning: short, lacking
短所(タンショ): a weak point, a weakness, a demerit
短気(タンキ): a short temper, irritability
短期(タンキ): a short term
短歌(タンカ): a short Japanese poem of 31 syllables, arranged in lines of five, seven, five, seven and seven syllables
短命(タンメイ)(な): short-lived
短大(タンダイ): a junior collage (shortened form of 短期大学)
長短(チョウタン): (relative) length; merits and demerits
短い(みじかい): short, brief, abbreviated (Note that 短い cannot be used to describe a person being “short” (opposite of “tall”). For that, you need to say 背(せ)が低(ひく)い. Please watch this video.)
気短(きみじか)(な): short-tempered, impatient
手短(てみじか)(な): short, brief
