～ぎみ

Today’s Grammar Point: ～ぎみ

Similar to ～がち, ～ぎみ is used to describe some rather negative tendency but while ～がち is more about frequency of that happening, ～ぎみ is more focused on the current condition.

Connection

[verb stem] + ぎみ ([verb stem] = ～ます verb minus ます)
[noun] + ぎみ

Examples

The aeroplane is a little delayed. (a bit late than scheduled)

Cf. 飛行機ひこうきは遅おくれがちです。
Aeroplanes are subject to delays. (rather often delayed)
