Today’s grammar point is ～にたいして/～たいし, which is usually used in the following 2 occasions.

• to clarify the target of the action (thus translated as “to ～,” “towards ～” or “against ～”) – In this meaning ～にたいして only follows a noun, or
• to show a contrast between 2 things (thus translated as “in contrast to ～,” “compared to ～” or “while ～”) – In this meaning, ～にたいして can follow a noun as well as a noun phrase, which is in many cases shown as [plain form predicate] + の.
