Connection

[noun] は [noun] だった。
[noun] は [なadjective] だった。
[noun] は [いadjective stem] かった。(いadjective stem means an いadjective without the last い)

Meaning

Examples

1. わたしは がくせい だった。
   I was a student.
2. ジョンさんたちは かいしゃいん だった。
   John and others were company employees.
3. ジョンさんは しんせつ だった。
   John was kind.
4. この もんだいは かんたん だった。
   This question was easy.
5. ジョンさんの おくさんは やさしかった。
   John’s wife was nice.
6. あの ほんは むずかしかった。
   That book was difficult.
