How would you translate each まずい?
a. この スープは まずい。
b. その日は ちょっと まずいです。
c. まずい人に あった。
d. いいかたが まずいです。
It seems most JLPT resources list まずい as an いadjective meaning “not tasting good.” However, in real life, we tend not to use まずい for food (especially something other people prepared). We usually replace that with おいしくない as it sounds slightly softer and まずい is more often used to express inconvenience, awkwardness or clumsiness. So each sentence should mean:
a. [taste bad] This soup tastes bad.
b. [inconvenient] That day is not very convenient.
c. [awkward, unfavourable] I met the person I didn’t want to see.
d. [poor, unwise] The way he says it is no good.
