Module 5.1 – I’m going to Japan with my mum on a plane

Japanese sentences are very forgiving about the order of sentence components. The only thing we need to stick to is to place the (predicate) verb at the end of a sentence with or without a sentence ending particle (か or ね or よ).

You can place any of the elements on the left below in almost any order.

One more particles that were not mentioned in the video

だけ = only and だけ replaces は and を while it can be used with other particles.

わたしだけ パーティーに いきませんでした。
Only I didn’t go to the party (= it was me who didn’t go to the party.)

いもうとは カレーの にくだけ たべます。
My sister eats only meat in a curry.

ジョンさんだけが パーティーに きました。
Only John came to the party.

とうふを おはしだけで たべました。
I ate tofu only with chopsticks.
