Meaning: a body, a shape

Reading:

身体(シンタイ): the body, the person, the system
身体 can be read as からだ
正体(ショウタイ): one’s true character, an original form

体(テイ)たらく: a nasty state of affairs, a mess

体(からだ): a body, one’s whole body

#体 is made of にんべん(イ , a person) and 本 (the base), so you can remember that a human body is the base of everything!
Having said that, 体 used to be an informal variant of 體 or 躰, so you cannot use 本 as a pronunciation indicator.
